Best time to visit Asia

The right month depends on where you are going, what you want to do there, and how much you mind crowds.

Shoulder seasons

The weeks on either side of a destination’s peak season usually bring most of the good weather at a fraction of the cost, with far shorter queues at the major sites.

Watch the holidaysDomestic holiday periods move prices and crowds more than foreign tourism does. Lunar New Year, Golden Week in Japan, Chuseok in Korea, Eid, Diwali and Songkran all fill transport and accommodation well in advance.

Religious observances

Ramadan changes opening hours and the rhythm of the day across Muslim-majority countries, and its dates move each year. It can be a rewarding time to travel, but plan around daytime closures.
