Health and safety in Asia

Most travel in Asia is uneventful. The preparation that matters is mostly paperwork done before you leave.

Before you go

  • Check your own government’s travel advice for each country on your route, and check it again close to departure.
  • See a travel health clinic well in advance — some vaccinations need several weeks, and a few countries require proof of specific vaccination on entry.
  • Take travel insurance that covers medical evacuation. Private hospital costs in parts of the region are high, and remote areas may need an air transfer.
  • Carry prescription medicines in their original packaging with a copy of the prescription. Some common medicines are controlled substances in parts of Asia.
